Much progress and a scholarship! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

OMG!!!!!!! When I read the first line of Daphne's comment, I was going to say - I used to work at the Main Office of BMO in Old Montreal. The number of days I had lunch in the park across the street, right in front of Notre-Dame Basilica. But seriously? There is a plaque in the BMO Museum about the Pauline Vanier Scholarship! I did not know that, and I hope Daphne got a picture. That was ME!!!!!! I should tell you that story someday. I have photos at home -- it was a really big to-do. And it was a ...

Quilting Inspiration from From My Carolina Home

This past weekend was our Western North Carolina Quilters Guild’s biannual Garden of Quilts show, and what a show it was! The amount of work and volunteers it takes to put it on is staggering, but the inspiration is worth the effort. I don’t know how many quilts were on display, but it had to be over 150 in sizes from small wall hangings up to large bed quilts. There were traditional pieced quilts, modern art quilts, whimsical applique, and ones with intensive hand work. Then there were vendors with fabrics and notions, a used bookstore and a ...

Travelog: Victoria with Magpies and quilts from With Strings Attached

The Magpies met in the late 1990's on the Usenet newsgroup Rec.Crafts.Textiles.Quilting. We spun off from RCTQ so we could chatter (like magpies) off-topic.  We've had in-person meetups large and small.

Earlier this year Diane offered to host a Magpie meetup in Victoria, BC, in conjunction with the Victoria Quilters' Guild biennial show May 9-10.  Five of us took her up on the offer:  Stacey (MO), Phebe (WA), Janet (PA), Debs (also in Victoria), and me.

Janet flew to O'Hare and we had the same flight from ORD to SEA.  We spent the night ...

Our Western North Carolina Quilters Guild biannual show is coming up on May 15-16 in Flat Rock at Bonclarken Conference Center in the Youth Activities Building. This year the raffle baskets are themed with not just sewing, but cooking and gardening among others. The quilting one has fabrics, notions, hotel stay for Paducah and gift certificates with the total worth over $1000!! There will be a food truck on site ...

Weekly update: quilt exhibit + finishes + reading from With Strings Attached

We escaped the tornadoes and the flooding that hit Illinois and Wisconsin last week but there was a lot of rain.  It's the third-wettest April on record.  My basement stayed dry (I had the landscapers add a bank of soil around the problem corner of the foundation) but apparently there's a roof leak.  It's always something . . .

On Friday Leslie and I met at Concordia University in River Forest to see an exhibit of quilts by Modern Quilt Studio (=Weeks Ringle and Bill Kerr).  Leslie and I met at a P.E.O. convention and we immediately hit ...

I was so excited to see this special exhibit at the Lancaster quilt show and I was not disappointed!

Perfect and humble in every way! This was the oldest eagle quilt in their collection. I bought a one page pattern for it and can't wait to use it somehow this year!

I love the humble border vine!

A bold coverlet!

2026 Pride of the Prairie Quilt Show from Cheryl's Teapots2Quilting

My large quilt guild, Pride of the Prairie, had it's quilt show this past weekend.  We only have about 60 members, but 36 of those members entered 282 quilts & items.  I showed the 17 items I entered in the previous post.  I also had a booth with 14 of my vintage sewing machines (12 were hand cranks).

Here are some of the quilts from the show.  This first quilt is just one of the group quilts that the guild made for Quilts of Valor this past year (we made 3 Churn Dash quilts plus a few others, too).

Sharon ...

Pride of the Prairie Quilt Show (2026) from Cheryl's Teapots2Quilting

My large quilt guild is having it's bi-annual quilt show this weekend.  I only had time to take photos of the quilts & items that I entered this morning. I entered 17 items, and 13 of the items were in judged categories.  There is a new category, Found and Finished, for items that we 'found' somewhere and finished.  This category isn't judged, just displayed.  I wasn't expecting to win any ribbons (we have many excellent quilters in this guild), BUT, I got 4 ribbons!!!  Two First place ribbons, a 2nd place ribbon and a 3rd place ribbon!!!  WOW ...

Weekly update, part 2: quilt show from With Strings Attached

The Fine Art of Fiber is an annual collaboration of Illinois Quilters, Inc., North Suburban Needlearts Guild, and the Weaver's Guild of the North Shore.  It's held at the Chicago Botanic Garden the first Thursday through Saturday of November.

A couple of years ago I saw my librarian friend Elisa at the show. This time I emailed her and we arranged to meet up.  She's not a quilter but she appreciates quilting and she likes to shop at the boutique.  We had lunch in the Garden cafe, too.

We posed with an elaborately-quilted jacket made by Sue ...

Midweek: quilt show, estate sale, and a finish from With Strings Attached

Tuesday morning:  the sunrise over Lake Michigan.

I'm awake early in the morning but I'm not always dressed and sufficiently caffeinated to go down to the lakefront.

The Village Quilters held their biennial show at the College of Lake County on Friday and Saturday.  Irene and I went on Friday.  We saw many friends from our guild and others.  Here are some of the quilts on display.

Local shows are great, aren't they?

There were more than a dozen vendors.

I made a contribution at the Quilts of Valor booth and in return got to choose fabric ...

Quilts from the Village Quilt Show from Cheryl's Teapots2Quilting

I went to a quilt show today.  It was well over an hour from my house, but worth it.  I was smart, and asked hubby if there were any disc golf courses that he wanted to play that were near the quilt show (In Grayslake, IL).  Of course there were several disc golf courses, so he drove, dropped me off, then he went to play disc golf (he scored 6 under, so he was happy;).

I took photos of some of the quilts that caught my eye at this quilt show.  I thought that some of you might like an ...

The Saskatoon Quilt Show from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I love how some of you ALSO had to dust those knick-knacks! I can hardly wait for this morning to do my job!

OH MY GOSH --- The Saskatoon Quilters Guild Show. What can I say—it was a fantastic show, and I am so glad I decided to come. It was the BEST (by far) of any guild show that I have ever been to, and I've been to a fair number. Why? Well, I'll tell you shortly.

I stopped by the apartment for a little bit before I left, as I had some time to kill before ...

Developments from Quilting and More...

Our local guild is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, and our guest speaking on Saturday will be Sherri McConnell of A Quilting Life. As it happens, it was from her blog that the circle I attend chose this year’s BOM as a group project, so we’ve been asked to bring our blocks to the […]

Exhausted! from Quilting and More...

Just before leaving for my trip to the Houston Quilt Festival, I did the most recent installment of the BOM from Wonderfil. Now the third row is complete, and there is only one more row — two or three blocks — to go! I’m guessing that one of those will be the bottom portion of […]

Weekly update: AIC, quilt show, the end of an era, a finish! and a flimsy from With Strings Attached

I've had ample opportunities to go downtown to see the Caillebotte exhibit at the Art Institute, but it took a "closing soon!" email to get me to do it on Friday.

Wealthy Chicagoans in the Gilded Age (1890's) bought Impressionists as modern and avant-garde, and relatively inexpensive.  They were patrons of the Art Institute and thus the museum developed its Impressionist collection.

"Paris Street, Rainy Day" was acquired in 1964 and has become one of AIC's most famous paintings.  Caillebotte painted it in 1877.

I had hoped to go to this famous intersection (Carrefour du Moscou) when ...

Quilt Show! from From the Strawberry Patch...

I mentioned the Belknap Mill Quilters Guild in the previous post, they have provided a quilt on every bed in the rehab facility where my Dad is currently residing. It just so happened that the guild was holding their annual quilt show this past weekend. After telling dad "good-bye" I was able to stop and visit the show on our way out of town. The show was held at a local Community College, this

Weekly update: quilt show, a new trail, some quilting + reading from With Strings Attached

The Southport Quilt Guild holds its annual show at the Anderson Arts Center on the lakefront in Kenosha.  The quilts are hung by the arts center staff and the show is up for a month.  There's no admission fee.

View of the lake from a second-floor window.  Podgaji "flags" guided visitors to the front door.

There were 75? or so quilts on display.

This was fun!  Each visitor got a clipboard with a scavenger hunt sheet.  ("How many points are in the star in quilt #70?" "Which quilt is named Daniel?" "What color is the center pinwheel on quilt ...
